State Government Contracts State government contracts are among the most contested for business opportunities by medium and macro business entrepreneurs. Perhaps, this is because they give very attractive rewards in return given the fact the government has many sectors and departments across the country. As a result, there have been so many scums revolving around state government contracts. At times, people and institutions who have been awarded state government contracts do not meet professional merits or their merits are questionable and can not be scrutinized. There have also been several cases of statesmen and politicians colluding to award their friends state government contracts. Others have awarded their friends who do not meet the standards set by the professional experts during the procuring process. This has always led to constant controversy between the state government institutions and observance groups or even opposition parties and members of the public. The main reason why such moves are condemned is because they kill competition and may even kill the production morale of those struggling to benefit from their production knowledge and hard labor. This may pose negative consequences to the economic growth of any state. To curb this, some state governments have established boards or commissions which regulate the way state government contracts are awarded. This ensures that there is adherence of transparency in the award of contracts. Majority of these commissions have been established under the statutes or acts of parliament. These commissions and boards are charged with foreseeing the state procurement and tendering processes to ensure they are done in a fair and competitive manner. They also participate in the establishment of procurement and tendering conditions. At times, they offer expertise and guidance to the ministry of trade and finance to ensure that government contracts do not exploit the public coffers. When there are complaints from members of the public or from lobby groups, the commissions or boards helps in their resolution. At times, they are even called upon to investigate grievances arising during the procurement and tendering processes. As a result, confidence in the tendering and awarding of state government contracts has been established not only in the bidders, but also members of the public. This is because these commissions and boards are seen to stand and observe the way state government contracts are awarded on behalf of the public. They are seen to ensure that suppliers and distributors are selected on the basis of their merits. They also ensure that those awarded state government contracts deliver to satisfying standards which ensures that the public funds are not squandered on shoddy work. State government contrasts should also be published and awarded publicly. These commissions and boards also ensure that this is done. This exposes all possible corruption loopholes to public scrutiny and questioning reducing chances of scums. Therefore, state government contracts are nowadays awarded in a more transparent manner as compared to previous days when this was done by ministers and their secretaries without the involvement of the commissions and boards.
