The Procurement Technical Assistance Center (PTAC), a state affiliated agency, is funded by the Defense Logistics Agency (DLA), the State of West Virginia, and some regional large and small businesses. The PTAC is missioned to generate employment and improve the general economy of its geographic area. The PTAC's staff accomplishes this mission by providing procurement technical assistance to those West Virginia businesses that are located within its assigned geographic area. The PTAC will assist those businesses in seeking to do business with the Department of Defense (DoD), and State and local governments.

The possibility of doing business with the Federal Government offers an enormous potential for small businesses seeking to expand their markets and increase their profits. The Federal Government is a multi-billion dollar (approximately $216 billion annually) procurer of various products and services. However, only a small percentage of the U. S. businesses are sharing in this huge market, and those who are, seem to be getting less than their fair share. The Federal Government is encouraging more competition and therefore more U. S. businesses to take part in this multi-billion dollar market place that provides those products and services necessary to support this huge customer.
